There is something incredibly special about photographing a family year after year. Watching children grow, seeing personalities develop, and preserving those fleeting seasons of family life is one of the greatest privileges of being a family photographer.

This autumn, I had the joy of welcoming the Burbidge Family back to Fenham Carr for their second autumn mini session with me. Nestled amongst the rich colours of the season, Fenham Carr once again provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxed family adventure filled with laughter, cuddles, and those beautiful in-between moments that tell a family's story.

From the moment we arrived, the children embraced the session with their usual enthusiasm. There were giggles, games, cosy snuggles with Mum and Dad, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy being together. One of my favourite things about mini sessions is how naturally children settle into them. With no pressure to pose or perform, they are free to explore, play, and let their personalities shine.

One of my favourite images from the session captures pure childhood joy as Toby lies back on a blanket, arms stretched wide and beaming from ear to ear. It's the kind of photograph that instantly transports you back to a feeling rather than simply documenting a moment. Another favourite is a tender portrait of father and daughter sharing a quiet cuddle, a beautiful reminder that family photographs are often about the connections we feel as much as the smiles we see.

As the autumn leaves began to fall around us and baskets of seasonal apples added a touch of harvest magic to the scene, we created a gallery filled with genuine moments of love, warmth, and togetherness. These are the memories that can so easily slip away in the busyness of everyday life, and yet they become some of the most treasured photographs years later.

Returning families like the Burbidges remind me why I love documenting motherhood and family life so much. Each session becomes part of a larger story, preserving not only how a family looked during a particular season but also how life felt.
