Intimate Bath Tub Motherhood Session: Sophie, Flora & Luna

Moments of joy ~ Intimate Motherhood Session with Sophie, Flora & Luna

There is something incredibly powerful about documenting motherhood exactly as it is.

Not perfectly styled. Not carefully posed. Just a mother and her babies, wrapped up in the quiet rhythm of everyday life.

When Sophie invited me into her home to photograph her with her beautiful twin daughters, Flora and Luna, we created something that felt deeply personal. The session centred around a simple bath together — a moment that might seem ordinary now, but one day will feel like a treasured memory from a season that passed far too quickly.

The Beauty of Everyday Motherhood

As mothers, we spend so much of our lives caring for our children in small, repetitive ways.

Baths.
Feeds.
Cuddles.
The gentle weight of a baby asleep against our chest.

These moments often feel too ordinary to photograph, yet they are the very memories we long to hold onto years later.

Sophie sat in the warm water with Flora and Luna nestled safely in her arms. There was no pressure to perform or smile at the camera. Instead, the session unfolded naturally as the girls stretched their tiny arms, gazed curiously around the room, and relaxed against their mother.

The result was a collection of images filled with connection, tenderness and love.

Capturing Mothers in the Frame

One of the reasons I feel so passionate about motherhood photography is because mothers are so often missing from their family's photographs.

We are usually the ones taking the pictures.

We document first smiles, first steps and family adventures, yet rarely exist within the visual story ourselves.

These photographs ensure that Flora and Luna will always be able to look back and see exactly how their mother held them. How she looked at them. How completely loved they were.

The softness of Sophie's gaze and the comfort of her embrace tell a story far more meaningful than any perfectly posed portrait ever could.

A Session Rooted in Connection

The intimate setting of the bath allowed us to create photographs that feel both raw and beautiful.

The warm tones, the gentle water, the closeness between mother and daughters and the tiny details of babyhood all combined to create images that celebrate this fleeting stage of life.

Twin motherhood brings its own unique challenges and joys. Watching Sophie hold both girls so naturally, creating space for each of them while keeping them close, was a beautiful reminder of the strength and tenderness that motherhood requires every single day.

Why These Moments Matter

Babies change so quickly.

The newborn softness fades.
The tiny fingers grow.
The way they fit perfectly in your arms changes almost overnight.

Photographs like these become more valuable with every passing year because they preserve not just what life looked like, but what it felt like.

The warmth of the water.
The weight of a baby against your skin.
The overwhelming love that fills the smallest moments.

Those are the memories worth keeping.
