The Magic of Shooting at Half Moon Bay: Why I Love This Location

There are some places that simply feel different.
Places where the light softens, the air feels calmer, and time seems to slow just enough for you to notice the little things.
For me, Half Moon Bay is one of those places.
It’s where I return to again and again to photograph motherhood and family stories—because there is something quietly magical about it.

A Space to Slow Down
Life with children can feel full and fast.
But at Half Moon Bay, everything seems to soften. The open shoreline, the gentle rhythm of the sea, and the wide skies create a sense of calm that naturally settles both parents and children.
There’s no pressure here.
Children can run, explore, collect treasures, or stay close for cuddles. Parents can breathe, be present, and simply be with their children.
And in that space, the most meaningful moments begin to unfold.

Light That Feels Like Memory
The light at Half Moon Bay is one of the reasons I’m so drawn to it.
Especially in the early evening, it becomes soft and diffused, wrapping gently around families. It doesn’t demand attention—it quietly enhances everything it touches.
This kind of light allows me to create images that feel timeless and nostalgic. The kind of photographs that don’t just show what a moment looked like, but what it felt like.

Freedom for Children to Be Themselves
One of the most beautiful things about this location is the freedom it gives to children.
There are no walls, no expectations, no need to sit still.
Instead:
little feet run along the shoreline
hands reach down to pick up shells
laughter carries in the open air
And in between all of that movement, there are pauses—moments where a child comes back for a cuddle, reaches for your hand, or rests their head against you.
Those are the moments I’m always watching for.

A Backdrop That Never Overpowers
While Half Moon Bay is undeniably beautiful, what I love most is that it never takes centre stage.
The soft tones of sand and sky, the gentle textures, and the open space allow your connection to remain the focus.
Your story is always the most important part of the image.
The landscape simply holds it.

Perfect for My Gentle, Storytelling Approach
My style of photography is rooted in observation rather than direction.
I don’t ask for perfect poses or fixed smiles. Instead, I create space for real moments to unfold naturally.
Locations like Half Moon Bay support this beautifully.
There’s room to move, to play, to pause.
And because of that, sessions feel less like photoshoots and more like a quiet, meaningful moment in your day.

A Place to Remember This Chapter
Motherhood is made up of fleeting moments.
The way your child fits perfectly against you.
The way they reach for your hand without thinking.
The way they come back to you, again and again.
Photographing families at Half Moon Bay allows me to preserve these moments in a way that feels honest, calm, and deeply personal.
It’s not about creating something perfect.
It’s about remembering something real.
