Motherhood Mini Session at Half Moon Bay with the Lucy-Lloyd Family

Family moments with the Lucy-Lloyd family by Morganna Monk Photography

A Mother’s Day by the Sea | The Lucy-Lloyd Family at Half Moon Bay

There is something so special about spending time together by the sea. The fresh salty air, the sound of the waves, little feet exploring the sand and those fleeting moments of childhood that pass far too quickly. For this Mother’s Day mini session at Half Moon Bay, I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Lucy-Lloyd family and their twin boys, capturing a little piece of their family story in one of my favourite places along the Lancashire coast.

Half Moon Bay has such a beautiful, understated charm. Even beneath an overcast sky, the soft coastal light, windswept grasses and weathered driftwood created the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, natural family photography session.

Celebrating motherhood, just as it is

Mother’s Day can mean so many different things, but for me, it is an opportunity to celebrate the everyday magic of being a mother. Not just the big milestones or the perfectly planned moments, but the little things that make up family life.

The way your children look at you, the laughter you share, the gentle chaos of having little ones around, and the feeling of being together.

With the Lucy-Lloyd family, we embraced all of this. Rather than worrying about perfect poses or asking everyone to look at the camera, we simply let the boys explore, play and enjoy their time at the beach with their mum and dad.

I love capturing families in this way, allowing space for real connections and genuine moments to unfold. These are the photographs that, years from now, will bring back not only the memory of a day at the seaside, but also the feeling of being right there in it.

Little adventures and sandy toes

One of the loveliest things about photographing children outdoors is that they never need much encouragement to find something interesting. The beach becomes their own little world, full of things to discover.

The boys enjoyed exploring the shoreline, watching the water and sharing little moments with their parents. From sitting together on the driftwood to wandering across the wet sand, their session was full of those natural, unscripted interactions that I love so much.

As a family photographer in Lancaster, I am always drawn to the quieter beauty of these moments. They might seem ordinary while you are living them, but they are often the very memories you will want to hold onto most.

Childhood moves so quickly. One day, they need you to hold their hand as they explore the shoreline, and before you know it, they are running ahead, finding their own adventures. Photographing these little stages of family life is such a privilege.

A little piece of your story, preserved

My approach to family photography is all about connection, feeling and the beauty of the everyday. I want your photographs to feel like you — a reflection of your family as you are right now, rather than a version of yourselves you feel you need to create for the camera.

Half Moon Bay is one of my favourite locations for this kind of photography. Its rugged coastline, sandy stretches and beautiful natural textures make it a wonderful place for families to spend time together while I document the moments in between.

For these Mother’s Day mini sessions, I wanted to create something that felt more like a little adventure than a traditional photoshoot. Somewhere families could simply be together, enjoy the fresh air and come away with photographs that celebrate their connection.

These sessions are also a reminder of something I feel strongly about: mums deserve to be in the photographs, too. So often, we are the ones taking the pictures, capturing everyone else's memories while leaving ourselves out of the story. I want to help change that, creating photographs that your children will one day look back on and see you there, right alongside them.

Mother’s Day memories to treasure

It was such a pleasure to spend this time with the Lucy-Lloyd family and their twin boys at Half Moon Bay. Their session was a beautiful reminder that meaningful family photographs don't need elaborate plans, perfect weather or everyone smiling at the camera.

Sometimes, all you need is a little time together, a favourite place and the freedom to let the moments happen naturally.

Thank you to the Lucy-Lloyd family for allowing me to capture this little chapter of your story.

If you are a mother who would love more photographs of yourself with your children, I would love to help you create something special. Whether we meet on the beach, wander through the countryside or spend time together in the comfort of your home, my family and motherhood photography sessions in Lancaster and Morecambe are all about capturing the love, connection and beautiful, fleeting moments that make up your family life.

Because these days may feel long, but they never last quite as long as we think.
